About Unsaid
Unsaid was founded in 2004 by David McLendon as the result of what McLendon calls "my own selfish literary needs." The aim of the magazine is to find and publish writers who care about language and the subversion of language in order to transform national literature.
Unsaid grew fast and is known nationally not only as a literary magazine, but an innovation in literature itself. When Amy Hempel--herself an innovator of American fiction-- was asked how her teaching influenced her work, she answered, "I don't think teaching influences my writing, but it does influence my reading. My students often recommend writers they've come across in publications such as Unsaid..."
In 2007 McLendon joined forces with publisher Archie O'Connor. O'Connor suggested there are other voices besides those of subversive literature that share a common vision with Unsaid, and now Unsaid is taking another step by launching this website. Through the site we will present not only writers, but painters and filmmakers and musicians who live and create by the same stubborn standard as Unsaid.
Welcome to a world.
