the brilliant clarity of water
was long presumed void
of all but varieties
of limpidity:
stillness, concentric
fluctuation,
form within
flow as of
liquid
thought, yet, put
to lens, proved
dense with the translucent
sides of animicules
which, barely more
than a thickening
of the water’s
motive, still, when
measured
against the membrane
of the concept,
appear wholly
opaque,
as is said also
of the obtuseness
of angels,
through whose wings
the finer variants
of light
shall never
pass
